Monastery of Pammegistoi Taxiarches, Xanthi


Only two parts of the old monastery of Pammegistoi Taxiarches in Xanthi are preserved today: the atholikon (a triconch church dating from the mid or late 9th century) and the bell tower.

Monastery of Panaghia Archaggeliotissa, Xanthi


The monk monastery of Panaghia Archaggeliotisa was probably founded during the Middle Byzantine period. It acquired its current form in the 19th century. The east wing of the monastery houses the Ecclesiastical Museum of the Metropolis of Xanthi and Peritheorion.

Monastery of Panaghia Kalamos, Xanthi


The Monastery of Panagia Kalamos, celebrating on August 23rd, was probably founded in the 11th century. The Katholikon was erected in 2000 by the Metropolitan of Xanthi Panteleimon.

Church of Pammegistoi Taxiarches, Kavaki, Xanthi


The church is dedicated to the memory of Pammegistoi Taxiarches (November 8th). It is a three-aisled basilica dating to 1834 that was erected over the ruins of a Byzantine church. There is an interesting wood-carved iconostasis and portable icons dating to the 18th and 19th centuries.

Church of St. Blaise, Xanthi


The church of St. Blaise is a three-aisled basilica with a oblate narthex, erected in 1838. The bishops residence and the school are situated in the precinct of the church, a communal tradition that goes back to the period of the Ottoman occupation.

Temple Of Saint Vlasis,Xanthi


The temple of Saint Vlasis is a << basilica>> with a depressed narthex which was built in 1838.In the precinct of the temple there is the parish priest's house and the school,which is a sustentation of communal tradition during the ottoman domination.

Church of Timios Prodromos (Metropolitan)


The Metropolitan church is a three-aisled basilica, built in 1839 over the ruins of an earlier one that had been totally destroyed by a fire and the earthquakes of the year 1829. There are some interesting icons on the iconostasis.
