Location: The tekke of Ali Baba is located in Ioanni Polemi Str., in the courtyard of a private residence.
The Monument: It is a small-dimensioned, brick-built edifice housing the tomb of Ali Baba, covered with textiles and carpets, all votive offerings of the faithful. Various textiles and a komboloi (chaplet) are placed on the marble inscribed funerary stele that lies over the dead’s head.
On the eastern wall outside of the building, there is an inscribed pillar according to which, Eseyit Seich Hats redacted the text in 1231 Hijra (1852 or 1853?) in the memory of the deceased Ehmet Efendi. The identity of the deceased man remains unknown; however we may assume that he had been the man who founded or restored the tekke, for the reason that, according to the bektashi tradition, it was quite common for the founder’s or restorer’s tomb to be located on the exterior walls of the tekke.
