Location: The church is located in the neighbourhood of Ouzoun Sokakiou (Makra quarter), in the area of Old Xanthi.
The Monument: The existing church was built with the efforts of the Metropolitan Dionisios of Xanthi over the ruins of an earlier and smaller church in 1861, according to an inscription inserted in the western wall of the main nave.
The iconostasis contains several icons depicting Christ the Pantocrator, Prodromos, Aghios Athanassios, Archangels Michael and Gabriel, the full body figure of Theotokos Vrefokratousa, Aghios Spyridonas, Aghios Dimitrios and the Holy Trinity, dating from the late 19th century.
On the icon-stand of the church, there is a very interesting altar icon of Theotokos Hodegetria, which lies close to the solea, and can be dated to the 16th century, while it was painted over during the 18th century.
