Giorgos Stogianidis (1912-1999) was born in Xanthi, grew up in Thasos and Kavala. Since 1970 he lives in Thesaloniki. He was a member of the editorial board of Makedonika Gramata. His first book, “Peristeria sto fos” [Doves in the light] appears in 1949 confirming his talent. Fifteen poetry collections of his followed. We can find a selection of them in the volume “Epi sinolou” [On the whole] 1949-1981. The work of “Perigraphi akinitou” [Realty’s description], 1984 and “En meso alazonon [In the middle of arrogant people”], 1991, followed. He gained the second National award of poetry and he is considered to be one of the most important representatives of the postwar poetry, expressing the concept of a personal adventure that goes beyond limits surrounds the questionings and agony of contemporary humans. He died in Thesaloniki in 1999.
