Hurriet Mosque, Xanthi

Location: The mosque known as Atik Mosque or Hurriet Mosque is located in the entrance of the city, in 28th Octobriou Str, and used as a worship place for the Muslim inhabitans of Chatzistavrou quarter, also known as Milliet Mahalesi quarter (quarter of the Republic Nation). The mosque was probably erected in the early 20th century.
The Monument: It is a rectangular, stone-built edifice with dimensions of 13X10, and a hipped tiled roof. The entrance is located in the northwest, and the mihrab in the southeast. The mihrab is decorated with wall edgings and barroque-style patterns. There is a wooden gallery and a U-shaped balcony. The freestanding minaret lies on the west corner of the façade and it has an octagonal balcony.
