The Greek-speaking community was strongly influential in the wider regions of Xanthi, as for example in the area of Giannikioi (Stavroupolis), which is located in the northern side of the city of Xanthi, where there was 1 primary school with two grades, 20 pupils and 1 schoolteacher.
