Theodoros Zalachas founded a Kindergarten in Xanthi that operated under his name. According to his will which he drew up in 1884, he bequeathed three warehouses to the city of Xanthi, the income from which ‘’would be useful to the eternal and infinite maintenance of [his] Kindergarten’’. Zalachas also allocated big sums of money for scholarships that were granted to the young scholars of Xanthi in order to study in Athens or abroad. He also funded the Society for the Propagation of the Greek Letters.
